Pressure and vacuum process filters for the pharmaceutical and fine chemicals industries. - The Miller Filtration System consists a range of pressure and vacuum filters developed for pharmaceutical and fine chemicals processing but having application in a wide range of industries wherever the efficient and economical separation of solids and liquids is required.
The design is essentially an automated (pressure) 'Nutsche' filter utilising 'Rapid Thin Cake Filtration' techniques with travelling band discharge.
All filtration elements are contained within a sealed enclosure while all actuating devices can be external to the enclosure. This allows total containment of hazardous products particularly when operated with a slight under-pressure and provides for efficient purging of the enclosure.
The enclosure, filter chambers and other internals can be comprehensively cleaned and/or sterilised automatically without shutdown and thereby prevent cross batch contamination and allow easy product change over and safe access for maintenance when required.
Rather than a filter which is filled with large quantities of product and operated for hours or days on end to process the complete batch the Miller Filter processes smaller aliquots providing greater consistency of product, more efficient cake washing and easier drying.
Cake washing is performed by displacement washing and the collected solids are dried to a high degree within the filter and as part of the normal process, which gives significant savings in both the capital and operational costs of dedicated drying facilities.
Band regeneration facilities maintain the medium in pristine condition and with extended life.
The end result of the latest developments is a band filter, which can be applied in areas previously reserved for other types of filter while retaining the inherent advantages of a band filter.
The main advantage of the filter is the ability to perform difficult filtration tasks with fully automatic operation and with a simple basic design requiring minimal maintenance.
